The Upside to Feeling Unearthed

And yet.

Every single time, something new came to light. Every single time, I eventually saw something in myself I hadn’t seen before. Strength, compassion, grace, resolve.

A little glimmer of a spark.

It’s like what happens during an eclipse; the strange alchemy that occurs when the sun is suddenly obscured. Our view is changed, the shadows merge, and everything we thought we knew begins to blur. Most astrologers say these rare cosmic moments are meant to wake us up; they’re meant to bring new energy forth. “Eclipses uproot us, surprise us, and get us moving. They shake us out of our feelings of complacency so that we can move from one level of maturity to another, to a higher plane.”

A moment of darkness that brings about an unexpected shift in course.

Three days later, my friend calls. She’s found a new place to live. “It’s great,” she says. “In a cute neighborhood, close to work. I wasn’t ready for all this, but I’m starting to feel okay about it now.”

“Do you still feel unearthed?” I ask.

“You know,” she laughs. “I’ve never actually used that word before. I don’t know where I got it or why I was saying it so much. I had to look it up.”

“What did you find out?” I ask.

“Something about buried treasure. And seedlings sprouting from the dirt.”
